Torontos own has always shown a special love for the city. Spreading love in a 1 Love T.O tee shirt way, and hosting numberous charity events, parties, and basketball tourneys Tyrone T-Rexxx has been paying his dues to the cold city. His hard work and dedication in The Remix Project and 1 Love TO has made him respectable amoug his peers.

The first time I met Tyrone was at a Tribute Party, and I felt a magnetic energy he possessed as an MC and a businessman. People really paid attention to him. Even during a longer than planned delay at the US Border, during the 1 LOVE T.O Bus Trip to DC for Obama’s Inauguration ’09, again he exemplified a leadership as he acted as a calm to the 7 hr border hold-up with encouraging words, and if it weren’t for his distinct voice I would have been lost among a sea of Obama’s supporters in the streets of DC a few times. He knows how to rock the crowd and hand out Heineken like no other! &&as he paid attention to his city; giving us event after event of energy mostly seen on the mic &&often overlooked behind the scenes, T-Rexx is stepping into a new role with his big voice.

On Monday I got word that Tyrone will be the new (voice) host of Much Music’s RapCity, a show that I avoided while flipping through channels may be reborn with the baratoned antics of Tyrone  T-Rexxx Edwards. Truly this news has served as an inspiration to stay on my craft and make something of it.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE GIG

I’ve been showing off the Art of Reuse video when close to a lappy or pc. Especially to those questioning thrift shopping. I personally go from time to time with my mom on small hunts for cool finds with our change purses… *and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY GOES OUT TO JASMIN, MY MOTHER Whom I am blessed and enriched and loved on sometimes annoyingly by xoxo*
But I have never experienced thrift shopping in the same perspective as Interim. = a new age thrift boutique
created by a group of artists whom
interestingly enough, are all under the
age of 25!

(View Now then continue to read. If viewed previously, rewind & enjoy the soundtrack at the very least this time. View by clicking the answer…)

Answer (Jeopardy Style): What is, the ART OF REUSE by INTERIM?

…Where was I? Oh yes, *flips back thoughts pre-written in my mind*
… Most of the reactions (from the video) are wide-eyes of wonderment in the “gems” found by the interim team. Sought out and uncovered from the negatively categorized (nasty) 2nd-Hand Shops. (“nasty” SeanBrown quotes as a familiar term to describe thrift shops.) But I think all that changes after we take in the vision of shopping thrift in terms of art.

INTERIM’S DEBUT OF THE TEMPORARY SHOPPING SPACE, “Popped-Up” @Smash Gallery on the 29th of April this year. And the buzz alone for this much desired oasis of thrift finds created so much thirst for this new perspective…

“that just fifteen minutes of opening, the inventory was sold out.” – http://www.artofreuse.org

While briefly catching up with the busy tastemaker Sean Brown (member of Interim), I jokingly inquired if there “Would be a guestlist for today’s Pop-Up-Shop. He more democratically stated

…Anyone is welcome!

Catching up with SeanBrown

But it is no joke what Interim is doing with their vision. To me they have revolutionized the way we as least think about thrift shopping and the negative connotative stench 2nd hand shops carry. By introducing use to the benefits of reusing perfectly good items that were a part of history that can affordably be reused as part of ours.

When: September 23

Time: 12 -7p

Where: The Masco
1267 Queen St W, Toronto

Where would we be without our berries, or iPhones, or droids?
Probably in front of a cell phone carrier, contemplating the price of a replacement/upgrade.
Then eventually in front of a sales associate (like myself) convinced that the newest brand will brand you into the ‘cool’ league of smartphone users. Well,  in most cases having a smartphone doesn’t make you cooler or more socially inept. I often joke to my coworkers that smartphone users should be … SMART enough to use the phones. Why, well born in this technological age, even I find things a challenge to understand, but I try, research, and discover uses for smartphones, and I am able to troubleshoot issues on my own. Whereas, those who buy a Blackberry or iPhone because of its brand fail to acknowledge their lack of knowledge for these devices, and bother me with ridiculous questions and faults are usually almost ALWAYS user errors. But for those who do their research (you don’t have to be a tech to know how to use a smartphone) I applaud you. In this case (the video) my laughter is heartfelt due to its realistic nature of uncovering why a client would want a brand over a device which fits their needs. Enough chatting… Just peep the clip!!

This video is a perfect illustration of what I would have to go through all due to anticipated launch of the iPhone 4g!
Take it in,

HowIDoIt

I like to do it when no one is watching.
When the house is asleep &&the street is barely awake. The street outside my window yields murmurs of few cars passing through the night (sometimes the early morn’) while the wind gossips between leaves of trees.

I like to be alone when my fingers get to flirting…
…with a pencil and paper.

**Side Note: It seems like a pencil is my most creative tool. It has its own distinct scent, to me is a creative aroma. PLUS! It has practical properties. An eraser doesn’t come on the tip of any pen. Pens are so final and ink, well it gets smudged. *clears throat, BACK TO PROSE*

Recap: I like to be alone when my fingers get to flirting…
…with a pencil and paper.
They playfully jot         letters   into words         onto   lines         of pages, sometimes clumsily &&out of arrangement but all the same – urgently scripting each of my thoughts.
I visualize scenes to help me navigate towards the perfect idea. The images -mostly derived from a playback of my life’s experiences &&they allow me to go deeper into myself &&create stories in which I want YOU to read &&feel like brail.

This is how my thoughts assemble into words…

…into writing. Just the way I like it.

I like to do this write when no one is watching, but I welcome the company of the read.

When you go to sleep you dream.
But when you are asleep and dreaming, be it
Good or Better
Lacklustre or lustful
Spiritual or sexual
Eventful or the same as last night, you don’t have to let go of them. When we sleep our dreams are made of a succession of emotions, sounds, images, and thoughts which we only experience in our minds. Could be the reason why at times our dreams leave us with a feeling of deja vu, but in reality each dream is selectively attached to OUR OWN emotions and thoughts. Meaning our dreams don’t require PJs or warm milk. To live your dream you wanna be awake to experience it…you follow?
I would rather live my dreams; giving myself creative control to tweek and peek my dreams’ potential. To me if you only visit your dreams while you’re asleep you are taking the easy way out. The dreams I am talking about require you to get out and DO something.

As something to think about each morning after you say your prayers, wash matta out of your tear ducts, wake &&bake or leave your generic greetings to twitter/facebook, this is a small reminder/note of encouragement…
When you wake up, your dreams shouldn’t end… they should begin!
So when you wake up,
wake up your dreams,
take them with you,
tuck them in your shoe on your walk to your car,
put them under your coat, tucked in right by your heart.

Never say good night to your dreams.
Say,

Good Morning!
